ご挨拶
展覧会「そぞろ歩き」は、企画者ふたりの気楽な雑談から始まりました。
飯島がゲリラ的に録音した安原との会話をもとに、当初は、その雑談を「台本」として再現するアイデアから出発しました。しかし、思考がそぞろ歩きのように脇道へそれながら進んでいく中で、企画もまた変化していきました。効率的とは言えないかもしれませんが、私たちは、この余白を孕んだ思索こそが生活や制作において大切な意味を持つと信じています。
本展では、上記の「台本」を参加作家の皆さんと共有し、プライベートなやりとりを制作の出発点とすることを試みました。何かを批判したり、積極的な提言を行うのではなく、あいまいで手頃なコミュニケーションの中にある表現の可能性を見つめています。
やがて会話は時差を越えて広がり、何人かの外国人作家の方々にもご参加いただくことになりました。場所や時間を超えて、ゆるやかにつながっていくその在り方もまた、「そぞろ歩き」の延長にあるのだと感じています。
鑑賞者の皆さまには、緊張の続く世界情勢の中で、雑談のような気負わない対話を起点とした表現の派生を楽しんでいただけましたら幸いです。そして、そうした雑談を交わせる相手や、そぞろ歩きできる時間や環境の価値を、改めて感じていただけましたら嬉しく思います。
Greeting
The exhibition “Sozoro-Aruki” (Leisurely Wandering) began with a casual conversation between the two organizers, Akiko Iijima and Chinatsu Yasuhara.
It all started when Iijima recorded a chat with Yasuhara in a guerrilla-style manner, and the initial idea was to reconstruct that casual talk as a kind of “script.” However, much like a leisurely stroll that meanders down side paths, our thinking—and eventually the project itself—evolved along the way. Though perhaps not the most efficient method, we believe that this meandering, reflective space holds meaningful value in both life and creative practice.
For this exhibition, we shared the above-mentioned “script” with the participating artists, using this private exchange as a starting point for their work. Rather than engaging in critique or making bold assertions, we sought to explore the expressive potential found in vague, everyday forms of communication.
Over time, these conversations crossed time zones and expanded to include several international artists. We feel that this connection—one that pass time and place—is also a natural extension of “sozoro-aruki.”
In these tense and uncertain times, we hope that visitors can enjoy the unfolding of expression that begins from something as simple as a casual conversation. And we would be truly glad if it prompts a renewed appreciation for the people with whom we can share such dialogue, and for the time and space that allow for such meandering walks
