展覧会における作品や照明の配置を起点としてうまれた、「仮設的であること」や「仮置きへの関心」から、私はしばしば埋葬地を訪れています。

当初は、遺体を野に埋めて骨になるまで待つ「埋め墓（放り墓）」と、「詣り墓」という二種類の墓を、一人の故人に割り振る「両墓制」を軸に、かつて埋葬地であった場所を巡っていました。

しかし近年は、さまざまな墓制への興味が広がり、可能な限り厳かに訪れるとともに、現地の方々と交流する機会も増えています。

何者かと思われるのももっともですが、私はあくまで一人の訪問者として、故人と土地が長い時間をかけて紡いできた風習を観察したいと考えています。

2025 飯島

Inspired by the “temporary” nature and the interest in provisional placement that arise from the arrangement of artworks and lighting in exhibitions, I often visit burial sites.

Initially, my visits focused on places that had once been burial grounds, centered on the dual-grave system, in which a single deceased person was assigned two types of graves: the burial grave (where the body was left in the open until it turned to bones) and the visitation grave.

In recent years, my interest has expanded to various burial practices, and I have increasingly sought to visit these sites with reverence, while also engaging with local communities.

It is understandable that one might wonder who I am; nonetheless, I approach these sites as a single visitor, aiming to observe the customs that the deceased and the land have woven together over time.
